Hawthorne

Hawthorne died February 18, 2018.

Hawthorne was my first ever chicken to die. Her name means a lot to me because of this.

Her Death

Hawthorne was killed by one of my dogs. I personally feel that it is not fair to the animal if they are wasted. To use every part of the buffalo or its not fair to the them.

I opened the back door to let my dogs inside after being out their for awhile, to go to the bathroom. When I opened the door, they didn't run over like they normally do. I saw them starring at something on the ground. With further inspection, I saw it was poor little Hawthorne. I balled my eyes out. It hit me deep like a slash vertically on the wrist. I documented her death with my sobbing, sniffling tone for my future self to bare witness and learn from what happened, so it wouldn't happen again. Boy, was I wrong - Montgomery

I ended up learning about the anatomy of the chicken. I cut her neck to learn the pressure so when I one day did it for real I wouldn't hurt the old hens. I tried to use her body in every way that I could think. I dug a grave (which I moralized)and spilled all the feathers I plucked off her cold body (while still saving some for keepsake) into the hole, along with her head. I them took apart the good meat from the bad  (chewed up meat). The good meat would go to a chicken broth and bad meat to be refed to my dogs. I then threw her left over remains into her grave, to be dug up on her anniversary, to keep her skull.
